Fusion Engineer (Experimental)

Location: Bangalore, India (on-site)

Team: Experimental Tokamak & Plasma Systems

Apply: Send your CV and a brief cover letter to careers@pranosfusion.energy

The Role
We’re looking for an Experimental Fusion Engineer with atleast 2–3+ years of hands-on experience in fusion or closely related plasma systems (preferably tokamaks, linear devices, HTS test rigs or similar).
You’ll help design, assemble, commission and operate sub-systems and diagnostics, and you’ll work cross-functionally with mechanical, electrical and controls engineers.

What you’ll do
1.
Own experimental work streams: set objectives, draft test plans, run experiments, analyze results and document findings.
2. Build and integrate vacuum, magnet, power, fueling and diagnostic sub-systems.
3. Commission, calibrate, and maintain instruments; create SOPs and checklists for reliable operations.
4. Contribute to operations during plasma days and maintenance during shutdowns.

You could have worked on (any of the following - OR; not all required)

  1. Vacuum systems & operations
Turbo/rotary pumps, dry scrolls, gate valves, CF/ISO flanges, helium leak-detection, RGA, bakeout & vent/purge protocols.

  2. Magnet systems
Copper/HTS coil winding/impregnation, bus-bars, current-leads, power supplies, quench detection, thermal management, simple magnetic measurements.

  3. High-current / high-voltage power
DC supplies, pulsed power, crowbar/protection, Rogowski coils, shunts, contactors, interlocks, EMI/grounding best practices.

  4. Plasma sources & fueling
Glow/RF/DC discharges, pre-ionization, gas handling & MFCs, puff valves, vacuum conductance, neutral gas injection.

  5. Magnetics diagnostics
Mirnov coils, flux loops, dB/dt probes, B-dot calibration, integrators, magnetic reconstructions.

  6. Particle & radiation diagnostics
Scintillators/PMTs, neutron/gamma basics (for non-DT settings: commissioning & background characterization), shielding & survey meters.

  7. Plasma electrostatic diagnostics
Single/double/Langmuir probes, I–V sweeps, compensation, sheath models, tip design & heat loading.

  8. Optical & spectroscopic diagnostics
    OES (VIS/NIR), filters/gratings/fibers, absolute/relative intensity calibration, imaging (fast/ICCD), pyrometry/IR thermography.

  9. Microwave/laser diagnostics (nice if any)
Interferometry/reflectometry, ECE basics, simple alignment & data reduction.

  10. Controls & DAQ
Oscilloscopes/digitizers, LabVIEW/EPICS/Python acquisition, timing/trigger, data pipelines, metadata discipline.

  11. Thermal & structural build
Cooling loops, thermal sensors, basic FEA correlation (COMSOL/ANSYS a bonus), fixture/jig design, tolerance stacks.

  12. Cryogenics & HTS (bonus)
Cryostat assembly, cooldown/warmup procedures, HTS tape handling, joints, simple cryo - instrumentation.

Minimum qualifications

  1. Bachelor’s/Master’s/PhD in Plasma/Fusion, Mechanical, Electrical, Materials, Applied Physics, or related field.

  2. At least 2–3+ years of hands-on experimental experience in fusion/plasma or equivalent high-energy laboratory systems.
