Role overview

Pranos Fusion is looking for an Electrical Engineer with hands-on experience in tokamak or plasma device systems. You will be responsible for the design, development, and commissioning of high-power electrical systems including pulsed power supplies, protection circuits, and bus-bar infrastructure that support our plasma operations.

Key responsibilities

  • Design and specify high-power electrical systems for tokamak coil energization, including switching networks, protection interlocks, and grounding schemes.

  • Develop circuit schematics, wiring diagrams, and electrical layout drawings using CAD tools (AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN, or equivalent).

  • Perform electrical analysis: fault current studies, arc-flash analysis, load flow, and transient simulations.

  • Collaborate with plasma physicists and mechanical engineers to integrate electrical systems with magnet coils, vacuum vessels, and diagnostics.

  • Manage procurement and quality assurance for high-voltage components.

  • Support commissioning, testing, and troubleshooting of operational tokamak systems.

  • Ensure compliance with IEC, IEEE, and relevant safety standards for high-voltage laboratory environments.

Qualifications

  • Master's or PhD degree in Electrical Engineering or Power Electronics.

  • 3+ years of experience with high-voltage or pulsed-power electrical systems in a tokamak, plasma device, or particle accelerator environment.

  • Proficiency in electrical CAD tools and power system simulation software (PSCAD, PSPICE, or equivalent).

  • Experience with coil power supplies, thyristor switches, or crowbar protection systems.

  • Knowledge of safety standards applicable to high-energy plasma research facilities.

  • Ability to read and produce detailed electrical schematics and wiring documentation.

Preferred experience

  • Experience at a major tokamak facility (JET, KSTAR, DIII-D, WEST, or similar).

  • Familiarity with supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems for plasma device operation.

  • Exposure to FPGA-based protection systems or fast interlock logic.

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent.
